UNEMPLOYMENT FUND
FARMERS’ QUEST. (By Telegraph Per Press Association.) HA WEB A, December 4. A suggestion by Air •!. S. Hicke\. of Opunake, for the use of the Thieniploymeiit Moaril fund, for form labour was endorsed by the South Taranaki Executive of tile Earmers’ Union to-day. .Mr Hickey proposed that the farmers should form groups to obtain from the Hoard grants for their required number of unemployed so as to provide accommodation, and 1 hey could engage men on purely productive work. He contended the Hoard funds would thus help to increase production in the primary industries which were now laced with a prospect of a considerable decline. owing to the inability of the fanners to employ labour at the present low prices of produce. The meeting opined that the scheme was highly preferable to the relief work usually created for unessential purposes.
It was decided to recommend tin scheme to the farmers and place it before the Dominion Executive.
