MAINTENANCE

An order for a mtaiutenanee order of 15s per week was made by consent.

RAILWAY CROSSINGS

The Police charged C. H. Guthrey with failing to stop when crossing the railway line at Park Street, and not finding the line clear. Defendant pleaded guilty and explained the position. Fined os and costs 10s.

Police v. John Stuart a charge of driving across Weld Street crossing at a speed exceeding 15 miles an hour, and with crossing the line when it was not clear. Air Park for complainant.

Defendant pleaded guilty, stating he crossed the line at a slow pace. He heard a shunting engine whistle and saw it stop hut did not see the <npappronching Ross train till it was about two chains away. Richard Younginau, porter at Railway Station said he considered defendant crossed the line about 20 yards in front of the Ross train. Fined os and costs 1 Os, witness 10s, solicitor 10s 6d. ' DANGEROUS SPEED. W. E. Gay lor. Borough Inspector, (Air Park) v. B. Andrewes charges of driving a motor cycle at a dangerous speed and with approaching the intersection of the right of wav and Weld Street at a dangerous speed. Defendant pleaded Hot guilty. Louis Reid gave evidence that he saw the defendant on his motor cycle, passing along the right of way between Hamilton and Weld Streets, at about 30 miles an hour. The width of the road there was 8 to 9 feet, about a chain from the intersection with Weld Street. There were some children playing close to the roadway. It was a very dangerous speed.

To defendant—The exhaust told witness the cycle was in top gear. Heard the cycle before it came to the bend of the lane, one child was outside of Armstrong’s gate. W. E. Gaylor gave evidence that the right of way was a. public read under the jurisdiction of the Borough Council. There was very little visibility going out of the right of way. Bart Andrewes gave evidence that he went through the lane from the rear of the Dominion hotel in second gear.

To Mr Park—He did not see any child.

Philip Reviers gave evidence that lie saw Andrewes go along the lane at about 10 miles an hour. He thought tlie lane was a dangerous place for traffic of any sort.,

Fined 10s and costs 10s, solicitor 21s on one charge and. ordered to pay costs 10s on the second...charge.

Borough Inspector (Air Park) v. J. G. Mtisgrove (Air Elcoek) a charge of approaching the intersection' of Hampden and Fitzherbert streets in a motor car at an excessive speed. A plea of guilty was entered. Fined 5s and costs 3.65, solicitor 10s 6d. A second charged of speeding was withdrawn. TRUANY. . . . . AV. D. ATackay, Truant .Officer, charged I. Tainui with failure- to his child to attend'school. Fined 5s and costs 12s. MAINTENANCE order. Robert Stuart who did not appear, was ordered to pay £49 arrears at the rate of £2 per month, in default one month.
