FURTHER (PROTESTS.

WELLINGTON, December 4.

Another protest against the issue of coupons and certificates for prizes was made to the Hon. de la Perrelle to-day by representatives of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, Dominion Grocers Association, Watchmakers and Jewellers Associatori, Employers Federation, Wholesale Warehouses Association, Wellington Retailers Association and other Commercial Associations,

A sympathetic reply was given by the Minister who promised to place the whole matter before Cabinet immediately. He said he realisedthe seriousness of the position. If it was at all possible, the matter’ would be dealt with by Order-in-Council, but if that was not possible they would have to wait till next session.

According to the Crown Law Office/ the present Act was worthless. It seemed to him that universal coupons were particularly dangerous to busin-

A voice—so are tobacco coupons. F. Campbell—l know tobacco people are tired of it. Another member of the deputation said H. and D. Wills directors were opposed to the system. In. the case of one brand of cigarettes which did not issue certificates the effect had been disastrous.

He quoted one large firm which had previously sold fifty thousand of this brand in a fortnight, but whioh now sold onlv thirteen hundred.

Hon, de la Perrelle said they would realise it might take some little time to put regulations into force. They would have to give the people an opportunity of redeeming their coupons, but the matter would he placed under consideration immediately. 1 .
