GOVERNOR-GENERAL
VARIOUS COMMENTS
(Australian Press Association.)
(Received this day at 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 4.
The “Herald,” commenting on Sir Isaac Isaac’s appointment says;—“We are sure we represent widespread feeling in Australia in declaring we regret profoundly the innovation, and the fracture of an Imperial link of inherent importance, and with the extra significance added that it was one of the last visible links remaining.”
Air Bavin comments:—“lt is a matter of great regret that the time honoured system of appointment of men from the Home country has l>een departed from.” Mr Latham at Canberra says:—“lt would appear now that the Commonwealth Government, a party Govern ment, has in effect chosen a GovernorGeneral. If the Commonwealth Government actually advises the King in this matter in the same way as it advises the Governor-General to appoint officers to various positions, then the Governor-General must be regarded as really a representative of the Government of the day.”
