SEA VIEW HOSPITAL
. RECENT IMPROVEMENTS. NEW VILLA OPENED. The new villa; at Sea View Mental Hospital recently completed is now in v Use > and to-day has its complement of inmates; a number of patients arriving last evening from Christchurch}' adding to the list of the local institution. Yesterday afternoon the new building wals thrown open for a private inspection- Dr Hayes, Medical Superintendent kindly shoeing a number of * .. visitors over the new building, those W^ r ' present including two of the official visitors. /
The new villa is a very handsome structure, built on the latest up-to-date lines, and is eminently suited for its purpose. 'lt comprises a connecting! corridor 198 feet in length, which connects up • with four large dormitories, -each containing twelve beds, a large sitting room well equipped with chairs, settees, lounges, tables, etc., the fnrnitiulre being practically all made by the staff, a large dining, room with kitchenette attached, two bathwith two dressing rooms attach ed to each, and other necessary ante rooms, all fitted cut with the very latest modem conveniences. There are special dressing rooms for the patients with lockers for -their own .tbelongings, while the house linen, etc., is housed in special rooms. The staff quarters are also includeiF'aftd. Comprise five bed roomß, sitting room and dining room with suitable furniture and fittings, making very comfortable quarters. A special arrangement for fresh air throughout the building is included, ensuring a constant supply flowing in at all times.
The contractor for the building was Mr Calvert, of Wellingtop* who lias made an excellent- iob of the work-. - which" makes a distinct improvement to the little township on the bill Tt was noticed also by the visitors, that a building was practically ; demolished. near the (bakery.- This is the laf?t of the old buildings that once formed portion of the main structure of the former hospital, before tlie extensive rebuilding operations cairied out were commenced.
The grounds -surrounding the new villa have been receiving attention and in a short time will be completed on lines of the other portions of the grounds which . are so well laid out in lawns, garden and rortthyays. and ar<* always the subject of much favourable and pleaping commentt-kV-visitors to the area. ~ During the-visit it was mentioned that the work of installing the maeh-
