Father F. S. Hartley, S.M. said they were not met to mourn Father Gi'bert, nor yet with barron words to praise Him, hut in friendship and gratifudie they remembered him before the altar of God, and to pray that his soul might he vouchsafed the peace that “pas.xoth all understanding.” He Was a great head master because he threw heart and soul into Ids work, because lie was a man of vision and explored every avenue of possible betterment. The history of education in New Zealand would know few brighter pages than those that, told of the life work of Thomas Andrew Gilbert. Music was supplied by the choir of St. Patrick’s College, and amongst film congregation were .students of St. Patrick’s College. The .service was eohelmled by playing the “Dead March” in “Saul.”
