HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 1. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present:—Messrs A. C. Armstrong (chairman), J. J. Breeze, R. Pcdder, F. Chesterman, W. E. Richards, W. H. Shannon, H. R. Sweney, J. Conning (lion, sec.) and Mrs J. H. Wilson.
The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.
INWARD CORRESPONDENCE,
The Chairman reported that the competition tor a doll had been secured by Miss Jean Archer. Toe Chairman reported in connection with the dental clinic that the stationmaster had advised that there would be no allowance made by the Department to scholars from Kumara desiring to attend the clinic at Hokitika. That Miss. James had advised that it would be several months before she would bo able to visit Harihari. From Reefton School Committee notifying the annual picnic would be held at Hokitika on Wednesday 4th. February and asking for the usual arrangements to be made.—Received and referred to the Secretary to attend to.
From Mrs Margaret Dale resigning her position as /assistant Mistress, after 14 years service at the District High Sheool, oil superannuation.—Received. The Chairman moved that the resignation be accepted with sincere regret and that the Committee convey to Mrs Dale its appreciation of the valuable services rendered during her connection with the school. Seconded by Mr Breeze and carried.
The Visiting Committee (Mrs Wilson and Mr Sweney) reported that some blinds were required for the dental dine.—Received left to Airs Wilson to arrange.-. It was resolved to apply to the Canterbury Board to repair shelter sheds and paint them. Tlie Rector (Mr J. L. Menzies) reported that, the gross receipts of the Ffiii- wore £7O Os 6d and expenses £l- - 8s 8(1. with fuel fund £8 13s 6d. bringing the: net profit to over £7B. —Received. The Chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Rector and staff and'to the parents and all concerned in connection therewith. Seconded by Mr Shannon, supported by members and carried. Mr Menzies said he deeply appreciated the wonderful support given by the public, which had resulted, during the last seven months in‘ £l6O being collected. The Rector reported that the proficiency examinations had been completed. There were 37 candidates. Of these 33 had gained proficiency certificates, 3 competency certificates and one had failed.— Received with pleas-
ure. The Rector reported that the attendance at the primary classes was very well maintained. During , the month oflleinl visits bad been made by Miss Dwyer Inspeotor of Home Science, Mr Johnston of the Agricultural Department of Canterbury Board, Mr Webb and Miss Greenwoed drill instructors ; enquiring as to tlie decision of the Committee in connection with prizes.—Received, Air Breeze moved that prizes be awarded a-s usual. Seconded by Air Sweney and carried. Accounts as scheduled were passed for payment. It was resolved to hold the annual school excursion on the second Wednesday in February. Air Conning moved the excursion be to Blackball. Seconded by Air Redder and carried. The Committee rose at 8.20 p.m.
