A strange craft made its appearance in tlie surf at Sumner on Sunday when members of the Sumner Surf and LdeS„vi»K Club launched a catamaran. Us strange construction evoked interestii,rr comment from the onlookers and its launching was watched by many residents and visitors llriefl.v it comprises two floats of Australian redwood, kauri ribbed. securely lashed together. It is capable of carrying about a dozen persons, who propel themselves with paddles. Yesterday the craft, rode the wave* in fine style and was taken some little distance out from the shore.- Apart from being n source of amusement, it is possible that considerable assistance- might be gained from its use during a rescue.
