THEFT CHARGES
FOUR MEN INVOLVED,

'CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 2
Charged with breaking and entering a warehouse in Wordsworth Street and stealing a quantity of goods. Clarence Harold Gardner (28), Francis Joseph Miles (19), Eric F'rr.nk Bamberger (20). Walter Rastrick (20). pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supremo Court for sentence.
Three of the men also admitted 'Stealing goods from a tobacconist’s shop at Addington. Answering a plea by counsel, Magistrate Mosley said: ‘‘l don’t want it to get about that men can commit (wimes of this sort because they arc out of work. It only makes their position the worse.”
HIT WITH IRON BAR
AUCKLAND, Dec. 2
As a '.seonel to an altercation last night Frederick William Hardwick was charged at Onehunga with assaulting Charles Royal Porter so as to cause bodily harm. The police said it wife alleged that Hardwick struck Porter with an iron lmr. There had been domestic discord and Porter might be a long time in hospital. Accused was remanded on bail.
FARMERS UNION
HAWERA, Dee. 2
Resultant on the proposals of the Dominion Executive of the Farmers Union, • having the objective of creating a wider interest among farmers in political questions, the- Dominion President, Air AY. <T. Poison conferred here to-dnv with the Provincial Secretaries of North and South Taranaki and Wanganui.
A suggestion to hold a series of farmers meetings, three in each Island, was approved, the first to be in Taranaki.
A .provincial meeting a;t Hawera will be held at an early date.
INFANT CHILD
TROWN IN BOX ON ASH HEAP
BLENHEIIAI, December 2
Yesterday, two ladies working in a Picton garden, had their attention drawn to a box thrown on an ash heap. Investigation revealed a newly horn female ‘ehild t crying lustily. The infant was taken to the hospital here and is doing well. The police are endeavouring to trace the mother.
SPEEDWAY FATALITY
AUCKLAND, Dee. 2
William Simmonds, 21, n motor mechanic, died at 10.30 to-day from injuries received when a racing car somersaulted and capsized, while driven at eighty miles an hour last night at Hennings Speedway, Manger®.
