Madras suffered severely from one of the fiercest cyclones experienced for the past sixty years. The storm which swept the City caused immense havoc.

An oil tanker was driven aground and three Europeans drowned. Many huts wee destroyed, and city offices collapsed. The electric light supply was paralysed and all telegraph lines are down.
