KUMARA BOROUGH COUNCIL
At the Borough Council's ordinary meeting on Friday, the Mayor, Crs Hamer, Murphy, Reedy, Stewart, and McEnaney were present. The Chairman of the Public Works Committee reported the valve in front of the Masonic Hall had been attended to, and a good deal of work carried out on the Zig Zag road. The town wanted cleaning up for Xmas and ’ the culverts in 'front of Gilbert's garage required cleaning out. It was decided that he should inspect the drain on the Beach Road and take steps to have the same attended to. The Mayor said the drain facing the Government Reserve in Tui Street, wanted cleaning out, but as no revenue was-received from any of tbe properties owned by the Government, he considered the work should be done by one of the Department's servants. Resolved that the Engineer be written to asking that the work be put in hand. Cr McFarlane reported that he had pur-, chased 78 feet of new fire hose from Mr McGrath, which could be paid for at the Council’s pleasure. Cr. MeFarlane’s action was approved. The Canterbury Progress League wrote re.prow, posed aviation site at Kumara, asking for a rough plan of the locality, and a brief .description of the country, and area available. The District; Engineer wrote that the proposal)* outlined for improvements to the Recreation Ground, , had’ been approved and application made for the work to be put in hand. W. J. Inglis wrote for permission to erect a bowser tn front of his garage in Seddon Street. This was granted on the usual conditions. D. Cron wrote asking for permission to erect a motor garage ’ on his property, situated in Tui Street. —Granted. ;b
