WOOL SLUMP

v "WANGANUI SALE

f WORSE THAN AUCKLAND.

(By Telegraph—Pres* Association) WANGANUI November '2B. There were heavy withdrawals at the first Wanganui wool sale of the to-day, the offering of 12,000 bales being" reduced to a little- more than half that number. The total sales only accounted for 4,930 bales. There was practically a full bench of buyers, and although the prices showed no improvement on Auckland, the competition • for better class wools was keen at an average figure ranging round fivepenee a pound. Bradford Germany and France were eompeti tors for the better classes, and some of the fine- clips went to sixpence half-penny. Germany seemed to he in the market for almost everything she could get. In consequence tlie quota of sales in this direction was heavy. Seeded wools locks and inferior crutohings seemed to awaken little demand. The dominion mills were bidding for this class at a penny nnd twopence a pound.

Quite a large quantity of the catalogue was passed, the growers apparently anticpating a better demand developing with the season’s progress. It was noticeable with some brokers, however, tint they accepted the tone of the mark'd,, and kept in tune. They earned applause from the buyers’ ben dies on what was essentially a buyer’s day.

The range of prices with the figures of the sale c.f starch 31, 1 £>3o, sTiown last, is as follows:—Extra fine crossbred 48/50, sd—4scl V rl — B|d ; inferior 4d—4/jd, 7/ d.
