There are now upwards of fifty men employed on the building, of the new hull for the Rimu Flat dredge. It is hoped to be able to launch the hull shortly after Christmas. Several parties of riveters are now operating on the work of assembling the parts for the new hull.

Arrangements have been completed for the County visit to portion of S outh Westland on Wednesday and Thursday next. Air T. H. Johnston, District Engineer, and Air J. O'Brien, ALP., will accompany the County party which will include Air AV. Searle, County Chairman, and several
members of the Council, with Overseer Alillner. The party is to leave at 9 a.m. on AA’ednesday. and proceed to Douglas road. Waitaha Settlement, to meet the settlers interested in regal'd to improved access to the South Bank of the AVaitaha river. The .party is to be at Pukekura for lunch, and in the afternoon will visit lnter-AA r anganui, in connection with La Fontaine and Petersen roads extension, and will fitay the night at Harihari. On Thursday morning. Air Chinn and others will be met at Rotokino regarding road access for flaxmilling, and then Lower AVaitangi is to he visited in respect to Roto road works and the road access to the sea beach oh the route to Okafito by way of Roto creek bridge.

The sub-committee of the Westland Competitions Society has revised the syllabus for next year's competitions in May, along the lines suggested by the judge. In the elocutionary section, humorous recitations and monologues have been deleted from the juvenile section, and the ages revised with a view To strengthening the open section. A special Shakesperean clffs lias been inserted in the juvenile section for 16 years and under. Classical dialogues have been added to the open section, also reading a.t sight and classical recitals. The subject for the prepared speech has been made own selection. The playettes have been designed for two or more characters, and a time limit of 15 minutes fixed. All humorous items are now in the open section. The judges' test selections are now awaited to enable the early issue of the book of words.
