TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
EXPLOITATION URGED. BY VISITOR. “Why don’t you exploit the tourist, attractions of your country?” asked Mr John Beynon, manager of Barclay’s Bank, Pretoria, who says that during a month in New Zealand he has found more scenic beauty and vnriety than anywhere else in the world. “You will at least have strong advocates in Mrs Beynon and myself,” he added. “I am convinced that just as Switzerland’s scenery has made her on© of the wealthiest countries in Europe, so your scenery could make you one of the wealthiest in the world.” Mr Beynon has been astounded by the variety of scenery in the Dominion, ranging from the thermal activities of Rotorua to the rich, native bush in South Westland. He has recently spent, some days at the Glacier Hostel, Waiho Gorge, and has returned to Christchurch full of enthusiasm for the glacier region. After the arid South African veldt, the green plains of Canterbury seemed to him very beautiful a a he saw them from the train window.
“Visit New Zealand'And Grow Fat.” 1
“We’ve enjoyed the scenery and found the people most hospitable,” h© said. “My only complaint is about the food. It’s too good. I’ve put on about a stone in a week. When you do come fully to advertise your country, you might use the slogan: “Visit New Zealand and grow fat.” But I suppose that would not appeal to the women. After eating your food ,1 think it’s a marvel any of you manage to keep your figures.”
