RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY. NOVEMBER 27th A lecture on “Cancer” will be given by IYA at 7.40 this evening by l>r. E. B. Gunson. The Auckland Orpheus Club will be providing lYA’s programme. The orchestra consists of some of Auckland’s leading players and they are a very enthusiastic band of musicians under able leadership. Orchestral items include “Ballet Music” from “Faust” (by Gounod) and “Ballet Music” from “Dance of the Hours” (by Porichielii). There will be a piccolo solo by Mr Will Henderson and cornet solos by Mr Reg. Davies. I A new singer to IY"A will be heard when Mrs Lambert, considered by many to be one of the finest contraltos in the Dominion, presents her items. In company with Mr Frank Sutherland this artist will sing the well known duet “O Lovely Night.” Mr Sulherland will be heard in two solos with orchestral accompaniment. Included on the programme will be the Asquiths, who will provide a “Twenty Minutes Drawing Room Entertainment.”

At 7.40 p.m. from 2YA, a talk on “Diet and Dental Disease,” one of the series of lecturettes arranged by the Dental Division, Department of Health, will be given by. Mr J. B. Bibby, an officer of the Department. The Savage Club Orchestra has arranged to give the whole of the evening concert at 2YA, A programme that will appeal to all tastes has been arranged, outstanding features being Friedman’s “Slavonic Rhapsody,” Massenet’s “Scenes Pittoresque” (descriptive of scenes in and around Algiers), a selection from “H.M.S. Pinafore,” Suppes “Carnival” overture, “The Blue Danube” waltz, Leutner’s “Festival Overture” and the overture to “The Bohemian Girl.” Vocal solos will be given by Savages Wilbur Davies and Lew Campbell. The orchestra will perform under the conductorship of Savage Frank Thomas, who is widely known as an orcliestrial conductor and accompanist of outstanding ability.' The 3YA talk for farmers will be given by Mr J. G. McKay, Fields Instructor of the Department of Argiculture, on the subject of “Wheat Certification.” 3YA’s broadcast will be on relay from the Radiant Hall where the third of the season’s concert by the Christchurch Orchestral Society is to he given. The orchestra plays under the conductor-ship of Professor Oddone Savini and a very attractive programme has been arranged. The numbers to he presented will include the tone poem “In Memoriam” (composed by Mi’ R. \. Horne', in memory of the late Mr G. Bonnington, ex-President, and arranged by Mr Arthur Lily, A.R-C.O. The vocal soloist for the evening will be Mr W. Toome.v (baritone). FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 28th. The Little Play Club, already very popular with iYA listeners, is providing the whole of the programme for tins evening. There will be original sketches written by Miss Marie Gaudin also vocal and instrumental solos. The artists appearing are Messrs Ed. Churohhouse, Jock Mackenzie, Lees Bui lot, and J ack Wright, and Mrs Zoe, Bartley-Baxter and Miss Dorothea Ryan. The whole of the performance will be under the direction of Mrs Zoe Bartley-Baxter.

The 2YA concert session will be devoted .to a prorgamme of Operatic and miscellaneous numbers. Miss Myra Sawyer and Mr Win. Boardman will be heard in solos and duets. Items of outstanding interest will be the solos by Miss Belle Renaut, late of 3YA.

Tenor solos will be sung by Mr Stewart Nelson and there will be elocutionary numbers by Mr W. J. Mountjoy. The solo pianist will be M iss Edith Unit, who will play Saint tSaen’s “Danse Macabre.” Another item of interest will be a cello duet by Mr Claude Tanner and Miss Irene Lawson.

Preceding a session of dance music at 3YA will be a popular concert to which the contributing artists will be Mass Monica O’Connell, A.T.0.L., Mrs C. J. Stow (mezzo contralto) late of Melbourne, Mr Sydney Armstrong, (baritone), Noel Newson, (pianist), Mr Bert Goedland (humorous reciter), Mr Harold Beck (’cellist) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio.

Arensky, Chaminade and Tschaikowsky will be presented in 4YA’s items this evening as the Studio Trio will present four of the finest trios by these eminent musicians. The vocal section on this programme will be presented by broadcasting artists of outstanding merit—Miss Gwenda Burt (contralto), Miss Dorothy Youd (soprano), Mr J. B. Hamilton (tenor) and Mr J. Clark (bass). This evening will also see the first appearance of'Mr Hunter, secretary of the Dunedin Shakesjieare Club. This club is of acknowledged standing and members have stepped from its ranks on to the professional stage. Mr Hunter is one of the outstanding members in the club.
