ATTEMPTED MURDER
OF HIS WIFE

William Barrett Browning, aged fifty-one. appeared, at the Olnrni Court before Justices, charged with attempting to murder Lucy Ann Browning atTe Koiniiti, on. November 6tb. Lucy Ann Brpwning j wife of the accused., stated that she was living-with )]im at the Public Works Camp at To Kopuiti. On the evening of NovemW 6th. a dispute arose over a game of cards. Later the accused struck her. and chased her into the garden with an axe, where he struck her on the left forearm, inflicting a wound six inches in length and an inch deep. Constable Ebbett .said that the accused told him that be would make a statement showing that he had had nrovoention. The accused complained about nion who visited his house beiue in positions and places where they had no right to lie.
...Accused -pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial.
