HAMILTON, Nov. 26

At Hamilton Supreme Court, £SOO damages were granted in an undew fended divorce case to Norman Callaghan against Charles William Michell, a farm labourer of Rotorua, on the grounds of adultery.

A PECULIAR ACCIDENT. CARTERTON, Nov. 26. Thos. Brown, of Wellington, met with a peculiar accident this morning. Whilst waiting for repairs to a car in which he was a passenger, he went to the rear of the garage where there was a cart-tyre settling pit. When investigating the pit, the operating lever swung around striking him on the head, inflicting a severe scalp wound. He was hospitalled at Masterton, his condition being serious. SALE OF POSTAGE STAMPS

WELLINGTON, November 26

The question of the sale of postage stamps came up for discussion at the Chamber of Commerce meeting.

The Chief Postmaster, Tur J. M. McLean, explained that three yearly license in existence had nearly run out and when these had expired, the whole position would be reveiwed. Seventy-four per cent, of the traders selling stamps in Wellington at present received a commission. It was purely a question of public convenience. He proposed t-o' supply the Chamber with a report, when the position was reviewed after the licenses had expired. PROTEST AGAINST COUPON SYSTEM. * WELLINGTON, November 26. The Council of Wellington Chamber of Commerce last everiig decided to request the Associated Chambers of Commerce to arrange a deputation to the Government at the earliest possible moment, to protest against he continuance of the coupon or prize giving system, which was stated to be growing in the Dominion by leaps and ibounds, and to be proving a menace to legitimate trading, - NEGLIGENT DRIVING, 1 CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 26. “That on October Bth he negligently drove a motor cycle on Colombo Street thereby causing the death of Marin Gladys Kitchener,” was the charge preferred against a young man, James Inkster, a plasterer this morning. Inkster pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The girl was pillion riding behind Inkster on the motor cycle when he collided with a motor car.
