WAGES FOR COAL PRODUCTION
The necessity for a reduction in wages in the coal-mining industry was stressed in the address by Colonel W. D. Holgate, president of the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners’ Association, at the annual meeting of the association in Wellington last week. ;
‘lt is now obvious,” said the speak-
er, “that if the coal companies are to continue working, wages and the cost of production must be considerably reduced, as both the' Government and the public are ‘insisting upon a reduction in the price of coal, in keeping with all other products, the prices of which are much lower than two yearn ago.”
