Their hunting experiences in Africa were related by young New Zealanders, Messrs H. Thomas and J. Holmes, who arrived by the liner Themistocles.
Their “bag” consisted of twenty different kinds of animals. Thomas nearly lost bis life during an encounter with a wounded buffalo, which gored him in the thigh. His companions carried him twenty miles to a mission station, where lie was under treatment for many weeks. The scene of the hunting exploits was between Northern Rhodes a and Belgian Congo. A third member of the party Mr A. McKinnon, left the ship at Melbourne.
