THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
NEW ZEALAND MANUFACTURES.
Dealing with the question of the unemployed, of whom there were over 6000, Mr Jordan, M.P., at Auckland, said the Government statements .show that we were importing articles which could be satisfactorily made in Ne\V Zealand. He suggested ns a remedy for unemployment that we should import fleas manufactored goods and make them ourselves. He quoted 12 classes of goods which were imported this year from January to September at a total cost of £4,844,830, and said that if half the quantity of these articles were made here instead of' being imported there would be available the sum of £24,057 per week for wages an average of £4 per week for 6000 people. r 1
