START FOR ANTARCTIC
MAWSON’S SHIP LEAVES HOBART. (Australian Press Association.) HOBART, November 23. The “Discovery,” with Sir Douglas Mawson’s expedition, sailed to-day for the South.. The expedition was accorded an enthusiastic send-off by crowds and on yachts in the harbour. Sir Douglas Mawson, in a farewell message, thanked the people of Hobart for their hospitality. He 4 declared that the value of the Antarctic would increase with a better knowledge of it. The ship expects to reach Macquarie Island in seven or eight days, and after a short stay.,, she. proceeds towards the ice.
