This form of blackmail is facilitated by the publication of the names and addresses of the drawers of the horses. IRISH SWEEP STAKE WINNER. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) LONDON, November 23. A Belfast civil servant who had been unable to .sell the last hook of tickets shared it with a local barman. He drew the first prize of £204,701 in the Irish sweep, but as he had sold half the ticket lor £3,500 their net win is £102,382. The newsapers point out that the Irish Sweep cost almost as much, in expenses as the £131,724 it provided for Irish hospitals. Correspondents and leader writers are increasingly insisting in the sanctioning of sweeps in Britain in aid of hospitals.
