REDUCTION COMPELLED | BY PUBLIC.

ROME, November 22,
Following a twelve per cent, salary reduction, there lias been a regular drive in tinted throughout Italy to reduce the cost of living. Meetings have been held ■ to-day in every city and township in order to re-adapt local economy, with a view to reducing the prices of bread, meat, vegetables and rent.
New prices have already been .submitted to the Governor of Rome .showing a reduction of from 10 to 12 per cent, on foodstuffs. Scores of the landlords have announced rent reductions.
At present all off the changes arc voluntary ones, but public opinion is .so strong that anybody withhold ng a reduction would find himself hounded out of business. „
The vigorous campaign has been so effective tl'nt the salary reductions have already been balanced by the new spending value of the lira.
