MR SAMUEL’S RESIGNATION
THAMES,November 17
The intimation by Mr A. M. Samuel, the sitting member for Thames electorate, that he does not intend to contest the next election owing to health reasons, has created much interest, throughout the electorate, and pubporters of the three parties have set about organising work for the . forthcoming campaign. At the present time it appears that there will he several aspirants for Parliamentary honours, the names of prominent men throughout the electorate being mentioned. For the Reform Party the previous member. Mr T. W. Rhodes, is likely to be asked to consent to nomination, and also Mr E. L. Walton, late chairman of the Hauraki Plains County Council, For the United Party names mentioned include those of Messrs Colin Mason, chairman of the Ohinjmu'i County Council, E... C- Marshall, Mayor of Paeroa, and H. Poland, who represented, ,the Ohinemuri electorate for many years.
Tt is stated, that the Labour party intends to establish branches in the three principal towns in the district and that .a well known, Thames lawyer may he asked to stand in the Labour party’s interest. The first signs of organisation have been shown by the supporters of the United Party, who hnye held very , successful meetings .at Paeroa and Thames. Tt is quite evident that keen interest will be shown throughout the . electorate in next year’s election.
