THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
EMPIRE GOOD WILL. The plea made by Mr Forbes at the opening of the imperial Conference, was lor “greater Empire good win, sympathy and consideration on tno part of those who directed the channels of trade and bandied Empire goods:” He quoted the case of New Zealand butter, which had been duels ed by the Medical Research Committe to be superior to any in its aH-the-year-round’ food value or vitamin, content. Yet Great Britain bought huge quantities of Danish butter, and paid 20s a cwt. more for it. Mr Bennlett and Mr Scullin saw the best hope for increasing trade between their Dominions and the Mother Country in mutual preferences; Mr Forbes sought rather a more accurate appreciation by the people of C«e United Kingdom that it was to their advantage to buy from the Dominions, which were their best customers. In the case of butter, which he cited, the matter of price is clearly not t m decisive factor. -London Chamber of Commerce Journal.
