RADIO PROGRAMME

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20th

Dr E. B. Gunson is to broadcast from IYA this evening, a talk on “Pure Foods,” a subject of great importance to the health of the community.

The New Clarion Quartet, consisting of four of Auckland’s leading singers, will be singing for IYA this evening— Miss Lillian Woods, (soprano), Miss Beryl Smith (contralto), Mr Lambert Harvey (tenor) and Mr Duncan Black (bass). Mr A. B. Chappell, whose topical talks are always based on important local, national or international events, will also appear on this programme. The 1Y T A String Octet will provide instrumental music. The Miramar Silver Band, under the eonductorship of Mr R. A. Sutherland, will give another of their excellent studio concerts at 2YA. The soprano soloist, Miss Mackenzie, is a versatile young artist from Palmerston North in which town she is very popular as a singer and entertainer, specialising as she does in Scottish ballads and popular songs at the piano. Other artists will be Miss Agnes McDavitt (contralto), Mr J. H. Lee (bass) and Mr Harry Phipps (tenor). Mr Norman Tzett will be heard in a bracket of two light piano solos.

A concert to be given in the Civic Theatre by the Christchurch Male Voice Choir, will be relayed by 3YA. This choir, which sings under the baton of Dr. J. C. Bradshaw, is a particularly popular combination. The soloists for this occasion will be: Madame Winnie Fraser, of Oamaru (soprano), Mr H., Blakeley (tenor) and Mr R. Lake (baritone). The boy choristers of Christchurch Anglican Cathedral will aho be taking part with the choir in numerous glees and part songs.

FRIDAY. NOVEMBER 21st. A series of lectures has been arranged by IYA in conjunction with the British Empire Cancer Campaign Committee in Auckland, and all of these talks are being given by eminent, surgeons. This evening, the speaker will be Dr. Hardie Neil. Music lovers who heard the excellent performances given by the Westminster Glee Singers will be interested to learn that one of the talented party, Air Tjprt Skeels, male alto, is now settled in Auckland and will make his first appearance at IYA this evening. Air Edward V. Johnson, flautist who is also appearing, has already been heard ■ from IYA and his solos were a delight to listeners. Mrs Laetitin Parry (soprano) will also be singing. Air and Airs J. AV. Bailey who have bad extensive experience on the stage, will be associated in two splenoid one act plays. The programme will include another interesting gramophone lecture-re- , ita.l by Air Karl Atkinson, being Park 2 of “Voices of the Orchestra— AVind Instruments.”

At 2YA, a programme mainly operatic, will be presented by tine Orchestrina, the Lyric Quartet and Aliss Christina Young. Aliss Gladys Alorgan will play pianoforte solos and humorous recitals will be given by Airs Mark Tanks.

Air Selwyn Bruce, a well known identity of Christchurch will speak from 3YA on “Early Lyttelton and Christchurch.” Three singers will be beard from 3YA this evening Airs Grace Empson (mezzo-soprano), Miss Nancy Bowden (contralto) and Air Clive Hindle (baritone). Air Hindle’s songs will be new to most listeners—- “ The Showman,” ' “I’m a. Cornishman” and “The Jester.” Two humorous elocutionary numbers will be given by Air L. T. J. Ryan and a very 'attractive instrumental pro-

gramme will be given by the Studio Octet. '

A special studio performance by the choir of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Dunedin, is scheduled by 4A 7 A. Dunedin is fortunate in possessing a choir of such perfect balance and exceptional quality, credit for which is due to the Conductor and organist, Mr A. Vallis. Included among the many diversified choir items will be a “Gregorian. Ghaut.” Among the other items will be mi morons duets, including “The ATiserere,” sung with chorus. “The AlarsciHni.se” as a solo in French, and it-ins by Air A. Paterson, who will recite.
