RADIO PROGRAMME

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER, 19th

This evening’s IYA programme will he presented by the Auckland Piano Students’ Association. A feature of the recital will be some examples of two-piano work. In the course of the programme the shades of Beethoven and Chopin will discuss the present state of music from an instructive and entertaining angle. The dialogue will be conducted by Messrs Karl Atkinson and W. E. McMichael. The vocalists will be. Mr W. E. Michael. Miss Winifred Hill, Miss Patti Sohnackenberg and Mr Tom Copsey. For a period of forty minutes this evening 3YA will he carrying out a relay from the Civic Theatre where the Royal Christchurch Musical Society will be giving an entertainment. Owing to copyright restrictions the remainder of the programme, a presentation of “Cavc’.leria Rusticana,” cannot he broadcast. The portion to he relayed will be a cantata, “Life,” a poetical work bv Wordsworth set to music by Mr Arthur Lilly, A.R.C.0., the well known Christchurch musican. The cantata chorus of 2°o voices and full orches' a under the eon due tor ship of Mr W. H. Dixon, L.R.A.M., A.R.C. M. The baritone soloist will be Mr R. J. Laurensen. of Ashburton. In the supplementary programme from 3YA, Miss Cecily Audibert, an outstanding singer of the professional stage, will he. featured.

The Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Choir will provide 4YA’s entertainment, when a concert will he relayed from the Dunedin Town Hall. The programme will ,he of great interest to all listeners, as the choral works include manv popular part songs. The vocal soloists will lie Miss Meda Paine (soornno), Miss Margaret Howden (contralto). Mr J, Adair (tenor) and Mr -T. Keenan (baritone). Mr Charles Martin, will nlav a. pianoforte solo and there will be 'flute solos by Mr J. Stewart.

Silent day at 2YA. The Home Science, talk (prepared by the Horn" Science Extension Denartment of Otago University) from IT A . 2VA' and 3YA to-morrow afternoon will on “BnrlaeD’ng,- or Managing the Family Income.”

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20th. Dr E. B. Gunson is to broadcast from IYA this evening, a talk on “Pure Foods.” a subject of great importance to* the health of the community. The New Clarion Quartet, consisting of, four of Auckland’s leading singers, will he. singing for 1Y A this evening— Miss Lillian AVoods, (soprano), Miss Beryl Smith (contralto), Mr Lambert Harvey (tenor) and Mr Duncan Black (bass). Mr A. B. Chappell, whose topical talks are always based on important local, national or international events, will also appear on this programme. The IYA String Octet will provide instrumental music. The Miramar Silver Band, under the conductorship of Mr R. A. Sutherland, will give another of their excellent studio concerts at 2YA. The soprano soloist, Miss Mackenzie, is a versatile young artist from Palmerston North in which town sire is very popular as a singer and entertainer, specialising as she does in Scottish ballads and popular songs at the piano. Other artists will be Miss Agnes McDavitt (contralto), Mr J. H. Lee (bass) and Air Harry Phipps (tenor). Mr Norman Tzett will be heard in a. bracket of, two light piano solos. A concert to he given in the Civic Theatre by the Christchurch Male Voice Choir, will he relayed by 3YA. This choir, which sings under the baton of Dr. J. C. Bradshaw, is a oarficularly popular combination. The soloists for this occasion will be: Madame Winnie Fraser, of Oamaru (soprano), Mr 11. Blakeley (tenor) and Air R,. Lake (baritone). The boy choristers of Christchurch Anglican Cathedral will abo be taking part with the choir in numerous glees and part songs.
