ANNUAL CONFERENCE
SOUTH ISLAND POULTRY, PIGEON, AND CANARY ASSOCIATION.
HELD AT TOWN HALL, HOKITIKA
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19
The annual conference, of delegates, ws held at the Town Hall at 10 a.m. The President, Mr Geo. E. Jeffreys iChristchurch) presided and there were present. sixteen delegates representatives ot the South island, the secretary being Air R. i'earce. The Mayor of Hokitika (Mr G. A. Perry) attended to extend a forma, welcome to the delegates.
The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) extend ed a hearty welcome to the, delegates to Hokitika. He trusted that theii; stay in the district would prove enjoyable and successful, and that they would carry away pleasant recollections of their visit to the district. The Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association was of more importance than might otherwise lie thought when casually considered. He understood those piesent; that day were fully representative of the various societies throughout the South Island. This, was,the first opportunity . foivrf in this \ district.; 1 They the welcome given and fe'lt they woulct have no regvets of their visit to this district which was renowned for its hospitality. The Association was formed primarily to assist everyone who had an interest in the (feathered \ world. They, had a very. representative Council. He extended also a welcome to the various delegates to the Conference., He concluded by thanking the . Mayor for attending and extending the'cordial welcome to them. ' d. The action of the Executive in), accepting the membership of lteetl f > Poultry Club was approved. Correspondence was read and receiy/ ed. ! It was decided tb hold the next annual conference at Gore. COUNCIL’S REPORT, 1930. The following is the report of the*' Assoeiat.on’s work during the last, twelve months, which your Executive have pleasure in submitting for your perusal. Councillors have attended t their duties in a thorough manner and they have consented to accept office for 1931 if you consider they deserve your confidence. f ., t . > ~.( i: Shows.—-The number of societies at-; {Rated to the Association totals-‘Bs.* During the past, year the fanciers , m Reefton formed a Poultry Club and applied to the council for affiliation,; which was granted, the action'tb be en-, dorsed at the Annual Meeting, a very successful show was held and their secretary advises that there is splend- * id prospects of a much better exhibition in 1931. Twenty-four societies held their public shows, the exhibitions generally being well up to .standards, established in the past. From reports received most clubs have had a., bard struggle this year to carry on. The main reason of falling off in door jj receipts at this season’s shows can bo traced to the fact thate: the British, Football teams matches clashed with.] a majorty of the main shows : n the ; South Island. rum. _ _ . , The Victory shield was competed for at Waiau and last year’s winner Mr A. E. Gillam, was again successful.
Art Union.— Being unable to secure*! a permit to hold a Gold dust Art. 1 , Union, your Council decided to again.j have medal craft as prizes for this.; year’s Art Union. - • Seventeen Clubs took advantage of the Art Union and it is to their su.pport that the Association is able 4*> show a good credit. The prize winning tickets were Isold at following shows:—lst Christchurch, 2nd Lyttelton, 3rd . Christchurch, 4th Waimate, sth Christchurch, 6th Greymouth, 7th Greymouth, Bth Rangiora, 9th Christchurch, 10th Kaitangata, 11th. Waimate 12th Invercargill. Five prizes have not been claimed to date. Art Union Championships will be allotted to all Clubs who supported the 1930 Art Union. UTILITY POULTRY STANDARD. No further progress has been made regarding the publication of a New Utility Standard. At the New Zealand Poultry Associations Conference held in Dunedin on March sth to 7th, 1930, a remit ifrom the South Island Poultry Association “to the effect that the Utility Poul-
