John Johnson, 60, on pleading guilty to keeping a common gaming house at home, was fined £IOO, or three months’ imprisonment. Detective Sneddon said that when lie called on Johnson on Saturday, the latter offered him £IOO “to square it.’ Counsel submitted that the Detective misunderstood, as Johnson meant lie w ould pay that amount into Court rather than be convicted.
Magistrate Hunt: Well, if he wax offering £IOO on Saturday, he can pay it now.
