BROKERS SENTENCED

VANCOUVER, Nov. 13

Dishonest broker,} who last year robbed the Canadian public of millions sterling in the great saturnalia of the stock market gambling, are being sentenced to penitentiary in an official clean up of the brokerage business which is now sweeping the Dominion. To-day Isaac Sallowby and Harvey Mills (partners) finally abandoned their appeal and starting serving their sentences. An examination of their hooks shows they profited by eight millions sterling, and probably Jiave five millions still, safely sequestered in banks. They have paid fines of one hundred and fifty thousand sterling and about three millions have been repaid to ruined customers, who were able to prove direct losses.

The Government to-day ordered tlie normal and the elementary schools to shut. BARQUE FOUNDERS. 17 LIVES LOST. SANTIAGO, (Chile), Nov. 13. The Chilian barque “Laura” has foundered near Ohonchi, south of Puerts Monte. Her captain and sixteen sailors were drowned.
