BROKERS SENTENCED

VANCOUVER, Nov. 13
Dishonest broker,} who last year robbed the Canadian public of millions sterling in the great saturnalia of the stock market gambling, are being sentenced to penitentiary in an official clean up of the brokerage business which is now sweeping the Dominion. To-day Isaac Sallowby and Harvey Mills (partners) finally abandoned their appeal and starting serving their sentences. An examination of their hooks shows they profited by eight millions sterling, and probably Jiave five millions still, safely sequestered in banks. They have paid fines of one hundred and fifty thousand sterling and about three millions have been repaid to ruined customers, who were able to prove direct losses.

NEW YORK, Nov. 13
The New York Copper Institute has announced that producers representing ninety per cent of the world’s output have agreed to reduce the copper production by two thousand tons monthly, This represents fifteen per cent of the world’s production of copper, and is about equal to the excess of the current production over consumption, Prices of /copper to-day rose ten cents, per lb? here in consequence, find they arc expected shortly to go twelve cents, where they will remain for a considerable time. All copper isliares on the Newark Market advanced from one to three points to-day. RIOTING CONTINUES. NEW YORK, November 13. News from Cuba states that desultory shooting continued at the capital into the night. A number of American citizens were seriously wounded. Four are dead as the result of three days rioting. The students continued to wrangle with the police throughout the evening., though the large body of the citizens remained indoors. The Government to-day ordered tlie normal and the elementary schools to shut. BARQUE FOUNDERS. 17 LIVES LOST. SANTIAGO, (Chile), Nov. 13. The Chilian barque “Laura” has foundered near Ohonchi, south of Puerts Monte. Her captain and sixteen sailors were drowned.
