HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FRIDAY. NOVEMBER, 14. The Council met at 730 p.m. Present—Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), E. W. Hetman, T. W. Duff, J. King, G Heinz, A. O. Armstrong, and D. J. Evans. Apologies were made lor Dr. Teiehelmann, and Mr Elcoek. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN WA R D COR RESPONRENCE. From Chief Inspector of Explosives, Wellington, intimating that Council had paid all monies due to Public Account up to the date of his Inspector’s visit, and requesting that petrol pump holders be required by Regulation No. 54 to exhibit “No Smoking” notices on Petrol Pumps.— Received. From Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, re Drainlayers’ fees levied when drainlayers perform workin a district other than that in which they arc licensed.—Received ; present fees to be retained. From Maurice Connolly, notifying that he will not require extraordinary water supply to property at Hau Han after the 10th. inst.— Received; roterred to Inspector. From Board and Council Cov., Auckland, notification of subscription due to October, 1031.—Received. From J. (J. Lincoln, Rollcston Street., application to connect household drainage system with new pipe drain.—Received and approved. From Thos. Stooforth. application for water service connection (domestic «upply'l, to Section 3375, Weld Street, and also a street crossing at the same section. —Received and granted. From L. Gooch, application for (1) Water Service connection (domestic supply) to Section 1373, Corner of Park and Brittan Streets, (2) Street Crossing, and (3) that drain along the frontage he attended to.—Received and granted. From Newmans Motors Ltd., application for oermission to install two kerbside petrol pumps in front of their garage, the tanks to be underground inside the building.—Received; referred to Public Works Committee to deal with.

From Treasurer reporting receipts £152 15s, payments £345 6s 4d, debit balance £162 ]7s Id.—Received. Accounts amounting to £475 17s were passed for payment.

FOREMAN’S REPORT. T beg to report the following works were carried out during the month. Hamilton Street footpath was concrete kerbed between Sewell and Tailored Streets, a distance of about five chains, and the holes on Revell Street footpath repaired. One chain of earthenware pipes were laid across Tailored Street connecting on to Tancred Street drain, at the corner of Hamilton Street. The drain on the North side of Upper Weld Stret leading to Mr Montague’s new residence was deepened for a distance of two and a half chains and Davie Street drain cleaned between Weld Street and Gibson’s Quay. Crossings were put in at All Saint’s Hall in Fitzherhert Street, at All Saint’s Vicarage in Stafford Street, and at H. Steel’s section in Weld Street.

80 concrete pipes were made during the month (18 inches). Water connections were put in at Montague’s section in Weld Street Best’s m Weld Street, and at Barlthrop’s in Rolleston Street.

Leaks were repaired in various parts of the town. The reservior kept full during the month lift 6in. Mr Wei'blitz took his annual holidays on the second fortnight of the month.— Received.

FURTHER REPORT,

ROLLESTON STREET DRAIN

This work has reached to the eighteen chain mark, and the pipes laid; the work was retarded somewhat lately, on account of water, and two of the men being under the Doctor for a fortnight. There reman.;? five chains to bo done to reach Park Street, hut the excavation is less, being now from eight feet six inches to six feet, so a fortnight or three weeks, with reasonable weather should see the pines laid to Park Street.—Received. The Manager of the Abattoirs reported during October there wbre slaughtered 12 cows, 40 heifers, 54 bullocks. 249 sheep, 3 lambs, 9 pigs.

2 calves. Condemned 1 sheep. Fees for period £63 5s Gd (same period last year £59 9s.—Received. The Mayor formally moved to change a gravel reserve to a public reserve as publicly notified. Seconded by Air Evans and carried. The Council adjourned at 8 p.m.
