RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company ofN.Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13th. This evening, the IYA Broadcasting Choir, assisted by Mr Reg. Morgan’s Orchestra, will conduct community singing under the direction of Mr Lien Barnes. Two of the members of the choir, Miss M. G. Davidson (contralto) and Mr P. F. Nash (bass) will contribute solos. During the evening the Dramatic sketch, “The Drum,’’ written especially for broadcasting by Mr E. J. Landon, of Auckland will be given by members of the Choir. Many listeners have expressed appreciation of another sketch, entitled “The Signal,” written by Mr Landon and “The Drum” will be equally dramatic. The Wellington Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association Orchestra- and Concert Party will provide the whole of 2YA’s programme. Tbe orchestra, under Mr J. F. Woodward, will play a selection of standard and popular light numbers as well as several novelty items. Vocal solos will be given by Miss K. McTver (a prize winner at the recent Competitions), Miss Iris Potter, Messrs Harry Matthew, E. Quirke, W. Church and E. Elliott, and Mr Len Peters will be heard in whistling soHos. Miss Edna Sneddon, solo- pianiste, will play Liszt’s “Tenth Hungarian Rhapsody.”

t A programme descriptive of a day in tiie English countryside will be broadcast by 3YA. Tt will make a very enjoyable entertainment, redolent of the atmosphere of life in tbe part of the old Homeland characterised by peace and happiness. There will be numerous old rounds, part songs, pastorals and, folk songs generally. Hie artists contributing to this programme will be the Avon Glee Wingers under tbe direction of Miss Millioent Jennings. 3YA will be on the air again at noon to-morrow. Silent day at 4YA.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14th. There will be a scientific talk by Mr Fred F.' Field from IYA and a talk on “Radio Installations” from 2Fa by Mr Colin Smith. The instrumental music at IYA this evening will be provided by the Studio Trio and will include a violin solo by Mr W. Waugh. Mr S. C. Lewis } the popular clarinet soloist, will he heard in several numbers, and Mr Cyril Towsey in a pianoforte solo. Mvss Maisie Carte-Lloyd and Mr Alan Ale. Skimming will give three humorous duologues. The vocalists will be Madame Alary Towsey (mezzo soprano) and Mr John Bree (baritone), singing as usual some very fine numbers. The programme will conclude with a gramophone lecture-recital to be given by a “Commentator.”

From 2YA Studio the Wellington Operatic and Theatrical Society will present a programme of excerpts from comic operas and musical comedies“Florodor- ” “Our Miss Gibbs,” “The Belle of New York” and “Toreador.” The Orheestrina will provide the incidental music.

The Bniley-Martson Danco . Orchestra has been engaged to provide tfie dance music session from 3YA. The preceding concert programme will be of a very popular nature. Miss Elaine Moody’s Hawaiian Trio, with steel guitars and ukelele will play some of the, latest Hawaiian and other airs, with vocal refrains by Miss Moody. Mr Jock Lockhart, Scottish humorist, will contribute two session fnll of risible remarks. The popular Mascots will present two sketches, “The Baggage” and “The Miracle.” Light baritone solos will be sung Ly Mr Arthur T. Oouch.

There will be a “Mozart” evening at 4YA when the whole programme will be devoted entirely to the works of that famous composer. A lecture will be given by Mr Max Scherek President of the Otago Society of Musicians. The singers for the evening will he the Harmonists Quartet—Miss Mae Matheson, Miss M. S. Green, Mr H. A. Johnston and Mr S. Falconer. Mr Max Scherek and a String Quintet will provide the instrumental programme.
