AN INQUEST

WELLINGTON, Nov. 13
At the inquest to-day on Thomas O’Byrne, aged 53, single, Frederick J. Hickman, a poultry farmer, of Lower Hutt, said that deceased appeared to walk into the side of the truck as witness was driving past Latnbton Station. Witness estimated his speed at six miles an hour. He was positive the truck did not pass over O’Byrne’s body. Visibility was very' bad ana there were a few people about.' Mr H. MoCahon, a tunneller, said as he was crossing to catch a train, he saw an object lying on the ground. Saw a motor car approach and pass' over it with both back and front l wheels. The car wap proceeding about twenty miles an hour and did not stop.
Medical evidence was there was a multiple fracture of the ribs and signs of internal injuries to the lungs It was more likely the injuries were caused hv being run over while on the ground than walking into Hickman’s truck.
The Coroner, in his verdict,' said the accident consisted in being knocked down by a truck driven by Hickman and then being run over by ? motor car driven by some person unknown.
