LABOUR, CAUCUS DECISION

NO REPUDIATION

The Federal Labour Party’s Caucus mot briefly to-dav. The official report of the meeting stated that a motion was unanimously carried denying any association of the Party with repudiation, and declaring the intention of the Party faithfully to-, discharge all lawful commitments.

A motion to recommit Hon. Mr Austoys motion, cabled on Nov. 7th. should legislate to defer payment to bondholders for twelve months, wa.> not moved. The position now is that Mr Austey’s motion remains uncalled, but no action will be taken regarding it. BA NICER’ 8 COMMENT. LONDON, Noivember ]2. At the English, Scotland and Australian Bank meeting, Mr Williamson, whr> presided, mentioned how the banks prosperity was interlinked with Australia’s prosperity. APPEAL FOR LOAN SUCCESS

Mr Scullin in a statement said, “J join my colleagues and other leaders in an appeal to Australia for the success of the conversation loan in December, and I am confident that the appeal will not be in vain. On a formal motion in the House that the Acting Treasurer’s financial statement be printed, Air Latham (Leader of the Opposition) condemned the proposals which, if given effect to, would involve a policy of inflation and repudiation and increase unemployment, Die country’s credit had never been lower, The income tax proposal was unjust. Personal exertion income of £4OO sterling which last year paid £6 4s would have to pay £l3 2s and the tax on some income from property would be increased from £lO 10s to £56 6s. Personal exertion income of £2OO was exempt, but the same income from property would pay £2l 14s. -Air Burton (West Australia) explaining the financial policy of a section of the party said Labour was more concerned about the welfare oi the people than the interest of the internal debts. The State ancl Commonwealth Parliaments should contemplate at least a three yeais peiiod to restore the financial equilibrium and the Commonwealth Bank should restore the note issue to the Per capita requirements of the Australian people. All* Fenton, in moving the adjournment, said the reason he was unable to" reply to the various questions regarding Sir O. Niemeyer’s visit was that he was awaiting word from Sir 0. Niemeyer on the subject of certain, information in cable messages that passed between him and the Government. If Sir Otto did not desire the messages to be made public Air Fenton said he would be unable to make a statement.
