WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12th
The ."Devonport United Rand, sunder the direction of Mr A. AY. Tatton has been engaged. Three new vocalists also appear on this -programme: Miss Sydlia Dobbs, a young soprano; Mr .Jack Johnstone ( a young Irishman recently arrived in New Zealand, the third is a young Englishman, Mr J. Phillip Mayhcw, the- possessor of a true bass voice of beautiful quality. These young singers will lie heard in several ballads. The Rand items will include euphonium and cornet solos by Bandsmen J. Robinson and AY. Elder, respectively. Light opera will be the feature of 3YAs programme. Excerpts from “The Country Girl.” “Dorothy.” “Rose Marie,” “The Geisha,” “Merry England,” and “The Arcadians” will be sung by the Melodious Quartet— Miss Frances JTamerton, Miss Alillicent Jennings, Mr Russell Sumner and Mr T. D. Williams. Miss Nancie Bishop. an’ elocutio-niste who was very successful on the professional stage when she was with the Allan Wilkie Stakesipearean Company, and who made her first appearance at 3YA recently, will recite a- dramatic and two humorous numbers. A very attractive instrumental programme will he presented by the Studio Octet under Mr Harold Back. BY A will he on the air at noon again to-morrow. At 4YA this evening, the Ivenz Orphean* will present a- programme of the very latest popular song “hits” and dance tunes. Soprano solos will be contributed by Afiss Rita Holmes and baritone solos will be presented by Mr R. AY. Fox. There will he Scottish humor from Air Buster Brown. An interesting talk, the first of a series on “Trades and Professions,” is included on 4Y Cs programme tor this evening. Mr Marshall, the popular auctioneer of A r essrs Clarke and Marshall, will be the first speaker. His subject is entitled “A Dnv in tbe life of an Auctioneer.” Air Alarbsail is a very engaging talker, and many 'of tbe humorous instances which occur daily in the auction market will he introduced in bis fifteen minutes' lecturette. Silent day at 2YA. Tbe Home Science talk from DA2Y,\ and 3YA to-morrow afternoon will be on “Homo Economics.” I THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13th. This evening, the IYA Broadcasting Choir, assisted by Mr Beg. Morgan’s Orchestra, will conduct community singing under the direction, of Mr Len Barnes. Two of the .members of the choir, Miss M. G. Da-vidson (contralto) and Mr P. F. Nash (bass) will contribute solos. During the evening tile Dramatic sketch, “The Drum.” written pecdally for. broadcasting by Air E. J. Land on, of Auckland will be given by members of the Choir. Many listeners have expressed appreciation of I another sketch, entitled “The Signal.” written by Air Landon and “Tbe Drum” will be equally dramatic.
The Wellington Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen's Association Orchestra, and Concert Party will provide the whole of 2YA’s programme. The orchestra, under Mr J. F. Woodward, will play a selection of standard and popular light numbers as well as several novelty items. Vocal solos will be given by Miss K. Alclver (a prize winner at tbe recent Competitions), Aliss Iris Potter, AJessrs Harry Matthew, E. Quirke, W. Church and E. Elliott, and Air Le-n Peters will be heard in whistling solos. A'liss Edna Sneddon, solo pianiste. will play Liszt’s “Tenth Hungarian Rhapsody.”
A programme descriptive of a day in the English, country-side will be broadcast by 3YA. It will make a very enjoya-Hle entertainment, redolent of the atmosphere of life in tbe part of the old Homeland characterised by peace and happiness. There will be numerous old rounds. part songs, pastorals and folk songs generally. The artists contributing to this programme will be tbe Avon Glee Rincers under tbe direction of ATiss Alillicent Jennings. 3YA will be on the air again at norm to-morrow. Silent day at 4YA.
