The death took place at Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, on Sunday November 9th, of Mrs Gertrude M. Mooney. The deceased was well known in this district.
At the Soldiers’ Hall on 'Friday night at 8.30, a Diggers’ reunion will take place when ex-servicemen will assemble to enjoy a social evening. Country visitors will be welcomed specially. 'There is the .promise of a very bright gathering.
‘This man is a bit of a pugilist,” said Air R. T. Bailey, when cross-ex-amining a witness in a case which was heard in the Arbitration Court, Christchurch, on Monday. The witness, who had a large piece of stick-ing-plaster on his face and one eve closed up, replied; “It’s all right, Mr Bailey; it’s a boil this time.”
Two cricket teams, one of hove under fifteen years, and one of boys under sixteen, representative of the ('"nter'wu'y Bovs’ Cricket Association, will yisit the West Coast later in the season. They will play matches nit Greymouth and Hokitika. Information this effect has been received bv the Wnst Coast Cricket Association. The dates of the matches are to be decided at a later date,

The annual meeting of the Westland Competitions Society will he held at tlie County Chambers at 4.30 o’clock to-morrow afternoon, when the balance sheet will lie presented and the election of officers and committee takes place. It is hoped there will be a good attendance so as to maintain the interest in the good work the organisation is capable of doing. As there are some vacancies on the Committee due to the departure of (former members, it is hoped additional members will he available.
To-night at the Soldiers’ Hall, commencing at 8.45 o’clock, the old time ball will be in full swing. ' The function is under the arjspices of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, the proceeds going to the hall funds. An energetic committee has been busy preparing for the event, and patrons should find everything in pleasant order. First class music will bo provided, and nothing should be wanting to assure success. TVie waltzing competition will 'take place at 10 o’clock and is suro to ho an event of special interest,
Infections and other notifiable diseases reported in the Canterbury and West Coast Health -Districts for the week ended noon on Monday numbered 22, or one less than the previous week: there were three deaths, or two more than the previous week. The notifications last week were:—Canterbury: Scarlet fever, 7; diphtheria, 1; tuberculous, C; puerperal septicaemia, 1; pneumonia, 1; erysipelas, 2; ophthalmia neonatorum:, 1; hydatids, 1; tetanus, 1. Deaths were: Tuberculosis. 2; tetanus, 1. From the West Coast one case of pneumonic influenza was reported.
