OBITUARY

MR R. M. VIRTUE. The death occurred at his residence, 84 Oriental Parade, Welington, on Thursday, of Mr Robert Mclntyre Virtue, youngest son of the late Mr D. W. Virtue, of the.firm of D. W. Virtue and C 6. flour merchants, after a brief illness. The late Mr R. Virtue was bom at Hokitika in 1865, and was associated with his father in establishing the firm on the West Coast. Some forty years ago it was decided to transfer to Wellington, and he continued in the business until his father died some thirty years ago, when he assumed control, which was maintained up to his decease. In. 1902 he marMiss Jean Robertson (daughter isf the late Mr David Robertson, the well-known iron founder), who predeceased him in 1923. He is survived by three sons, Messrs D. W. Virtue. a member of the legal firm of Young White and Courtnay, and Messrs J. R, and R. K. Vivture, who were both associated with their father in the business. •

In his younger days the late Mr Virtue was a keen cricketer. He war a member of the Hokitika Cricket Club, of the old Star and Phoenix Clubs, Wellington, .and represented the province, being a very good bowler. Latterly he had a retired life, giving a good deal of timr to the study of social and thelogien,' subjects, though right up to the last summer lie manifested a keen interest in cricket.
