20 REPUBLICANS ARRESTED
IN ITALY. (United Press Association— By Electric Telegr ap h.—Copy r igh t.) ROME, Nov. 8. The Italian Government, in a communique, announces the arrest of 20 persons in various localities in northern Italy, who will he charged before a special tribunal with preparing criminal acts against the Fascist re-
gnne. The Communique gives no details, and it is reproduced in the newspapers without comment.
The plotters are said to have been working in conjunction with the antiFacist elements in Paris. Nearly all of those arrested are professors, lawyers and doctors with republican views. They include Belotti, who was Minister of Industry in the Bonomi Cabinet of 1921-22. Belotti recently wrote a letter stating lie wished to start a literary and historical review expressing independent ideas. The letter was opened and Belotti was arrested. Others accused are Renzi a profesor of philosophy of the Genoa University, and Rossi, a professor of economics at the Institute at Bei'gono.
As the train conveying those arrested was starting for Rome, Rossi jumped oiu and evaded his pursuers ior 12 hours. He has been recaptured in the woods by Racist military men. The arrests are believed to have arisen from tiie clandestine circulation in Italy of a newspaper called “Just ee and Liberty,” which is published in Paris in Italian.
