RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) THU RISHAT, .NOVEMBER, 6th. In a talk from IYA this evening, Mr N. M. Richiuond ) 13. A. will discuss the problems of Capital Labour, the Minus Fives, the popular IVA entertainers, will delight everyone this evening with a novelty entertainment entitles “A Night of Convivialities.” This will be on lines .similar to the first one broadcast by this merry baud of performers and to-nignt they will be assisted by the Stuuio Trio and Frank Wade’s Melody Boys. Dance music will continue until II p.m.
2YA will broadcast a tain about “Gardening Hints” and .‘3VA schedules a talk for farmers.
The Wellington City Salvation Army Band, which performs under the conduetorship of Mr H. Scotney, will give a concert at 2YA. The assisting artists will he the Lyric Male Voice Quartet, Mrs R. D. Potts (soprano) and Mr A. R. Seal (sketch artist). The Lyric Quartette’s items will include concerted numbers and solos. One of the former, “Mr Lullaby Morn,” will have a ’cello obligato played by Miss L. Hill. The same artist will also play an obligato to Mr Roy Hill’s solo “Had you But Known.” Novelty piano solos will he given by Mr N. C. Izett. Two very fine quartettes will be heard from 3YA—“In this Hour of Sbftened Splendour” and “Softly Fa’ls the Shades of Evening.” The vocalists will he the Grand Opera Quartette, the members of which will also sing a number of solos and duets of a miscellaneous nature. Humorous recitations will he given by Mrs M. Williams. The evening’s concert will include a specially fine programme, by the Studio Instrumental Octet under Mr Harold Beck. Miss Irene Morris and Miss Tlielma Cussuck (vibllnists) aind the orchestra will play Back’s “Largo.” Silent day at 4YA.
FRIDAY NOVEMBER- 7th. Under the auspices of the British Empire Cancer Campaign, Dr. Kenneth Mac Cormack will broadcast from IYA, a talk on Cancer. The whole iof the evening’s programme from IYA will be given by Mr H. Barry Coney and his company. Mr Coney is one of the foremost musicians of New Zealand. He will bring with him to the Studio this evening many artists of outstanding merit. The vocalists will include Mrs Eric Yates,, Mr B. Turner, Mrs Howie. Mr W. Kerr, Miss Eva Russell and Mr A. Turner. Tlierle w.ilt also he vocal solos by Mr Coney. Assisting on this
programme will be the Studio Trio, amongst their items being a violin solo by Mr Whitford Waugh and a ’cello solo by Mjss Lalla Hemus. 2YA’s programme will feature the Etude Quartet in vocal gems from the musical comedy “High Jinks.” Elocutionary items will be given by Miss Elsie Cox. The. jCfrchestrina under Signor A. P. Truda, will play supporting numbers'“including a “Valse Lente” composed by Mr Claude Tanner, the ’cellist of the 2YA Orchestrion. Another item of interest will be a piano solo by Mr Ernest Sharp, who will play a waltz of his own composition. i This evening will see the first appearance of the Lichfield Male Voice quartet at 3YA. The personnel is Messrs H. J. Francis, G. T. Richie, P. Caithness and W. Cotton. The quartet will delight all music lovers. Among their solos will be, “Captain Mac.” “I did not know,” “Spanish Gold” and “Friend o’ Mine.” There will be a tenor and bass duet, “Mate o’ Mi ne.” Also on the programme will be Mrs D. W. Stallard (contralto), singing old favourites. Miss Gwen Webster, a blind girl, will contribute mandolin guitar items ’cello solos will be played by Mr Harold Reck and there will he items by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. At 4YA, the Winkel-Lampen Radio Players, assisted by some of the finest sketch artists in Dunedin, will present two half-hour plays namely “The Grand Cham’s Diamond” (by Monkhouse) land “Followers* ’ (by Brighouse). The Studio Trio will provide all the instrumental music on the same programme, and Miss Olga Wynne (soprano) will present three exceptionally fine classical solos.
