TARANAKI TRAGEDY. (By Telegraph—Press Association). HAWERA, November 5. No verdict was returned on the conclusion of the evidence to-day at the inquest concerning the death of Ngawai Hi Hi, a Maori baby girl, 16 months of age, at Ketamarae Pa, on Saturday, October '26t.li. The Coroner, Mr R. G. Gage, intimated that the verdict would be. postponed until the disposal of criminal proceedings arising from the same circumstances. Oil the conclusion of the inquest, the baby’s foster-mother, Margaret Kerehona, a Maori woman, 30, was charged with having murdered the child at Normanby on October 2oth. The accused pleaded not guilty, through Iyer counsel, Mr L. A .Taylor. After the repetition, before two Justices, of the evidence presented at the inquest, she was committed for trial. MANAWATU SHOW. Samuel M.P. for Thames announces after having given the matter close consideration lie has detided not to seek re-election next year. The main reason is that of a bad recurrence of the trouble that necessitated an operation ' about 18 months ago and fears his health may not enable him to do justice to his large electorate. Mr Samuel proposes going to London early, in the coming year to consult a specialist.

A case is proceeding in the Supreme Court in which Ernest Drew; is claiming £274 8s 6d special, and £2500 general damages 1 ' arising out of a;'collision between plaintiff’s motor cycle and a car driven by the dependent, Power Clapcott, an insurance inspector of LVlasterton near Kaiwarra on December 24. Squadron-Leader MacGregor stated the route was ideal for a service .on account of the plenteitude of suitable, landing places. The passengers were: Mr T. L. Hathaway of Auckland, and two Press men. The plane returns to Christchurch this afternoon. SUSPENSION TO STAND. WELLINGTON, Nov. 6. B. H. Morris’s suspension for one month by Otaki Maori Racing Club is to stand, and he will now be unable to ride at the Clip meeting, till the third day. * v
Morris appealed to the Wellington District Committee which referred the case back to Otaki Judicial Committee. The latter body has decided that the. sentence shall remain as originally imposed.
ALLEGED THEFT. AUCKLAND, Novemebr 6. William Hobson, of Nelson, 31, a clerk in the Traffic Department at Auckland City Council was remanded on a charge of stealing £l9l from the Chained.. The Police said the defalcations amounted to over £3OO. THE COLERIDGE TRAGEDY. i CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 6. The final stage of the Coleridge tragedy was reached this morning when Arthur Edward Farqiiharson, aged 59, Colemso’s companion appeared before Magistrate Lawr.v. The charge of Wing idle and disorderly was withdrawn by the police. FUNERAL OBSEQUIES.

The funeral of Lady Carroll took place this afternoon and was largely attended by representatives of Eupoperms and Maoris. The cortege was a very lengthy one, the city band providing suitable music. The .coffin w'a.s received at the burial ground with customary laments. Bishop Bennett assisted by a number of native blergy, conducted the service, Lady Carroll being laid to rest in a special tomb alongside (her husband.
