RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER sth. A few weeks ago the Birkenhead Municipal Band, under the direction of Lieutenant J. T. Lighten, made its first appearance at IYA and gave brilliant renderings of many pieces, ft is to perform again this evening. The assisting vocalists will include Miss Myra Monk (soprano) ; Mrs B. Jellard (contralto), and that very fine singer, Mr A. Gibbons/ Taylor, bassbar i tone. Mr Cyril Townsey, Auckland’s brilliant pianist, will be beard in solo in “Andante in F’” (bv (Beethoven.) Wide diversity, ranging from folk songs to operatic, will be found in 3YA’s programme this evening. The quartets will comprise a Swabian and a Hampshire folk song. Two operatic duets will be sung. There will be numerous solos. The singers will be—(Miss Corrie Aslin '(soprano), Miss Dulcie Mitchell (contralto), Mr H. J. Francis (tenor) and Mr J. Graham Young (baritone). Contributing to the programme will be the great concert Hall favourite, Mrs K. Hartshorn, elocutiomste, and an instrumental programme will be provided by Miss Merle Miller (pianiste), and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. Mr Arthur Gordon’s orchestra, which is one of the most popular combinations engaged by dancing enthusiasts in Dunedin, will supply all the instrumental music for 4YA’s programme. The very latest dance hits and popular melodies will be played, in addition to a banjo solo and a violin solo by two members of the orchestra. Novel items will be found in two vocal duets to be presented by Miss E. J. Richie and Miss B. Richie. Mr James Paterson, Dunedin’s Harry Lauder, will give items, and Miss McGregor, elocution iste, will present two bright numbers. Silent day at 2YA,

The Home Science talk from IYA, 2YA and 3YA to-morrow afternoon will lie on “Spring Cleaning.” The talk has been prepared by the Home Sciteiii.ee 'Extension. Department of Otago University.

THURSDAY, 'NOVEMBER 6th. In a talk from IYA this evening, Mr N. M. Richmonci j B.A. will discuss the problems ot Capital Labour. The Mums Fives, the popular IYA entertainers, will delight everyone this evening with a novelty entertainment entitlec “A Night of Convivialities.” This will be on lines similar to the first one broadcast by this merry band of performers and to-night they will be assisted by the Stuuio Trio and Frank Wade’s Melody Boys. Dance music will continue until 11 p.m. 2YA will broadcast a talk about “Gardening Hints” and 3YA schedules a talk for farmers.

The Wellington City Salvation Army Band, which performs under the oonductorship of Air H. Scotney, will give a concert at 2YA. The assist!ng artists will be the Lyric Male Voice Quartet, Mrs R. 1). Potts (soprano) and Mr A. R. Seal (sketch artist). The Lyric Quartette’s items will include concerted numbers and solos. Ope of the former, “Mr Lullaby Morn,” will have a ’cello obligato played bv Miss L. Hill.

The same artist will also .play an obligato to Mr Roy Hill’s solo “Had you But Known.” Novelty piano solos will be given by Mr N. C. Izett. Two wry fine quartettes wilL be heard from* this Hour of Sbftened Splendour” and “Softly Fads the Shades of Evening.” The vocalists will be the Grand Opera Quartette-, the members of which will also sing a number of solos and duets of a miscellaneous nature. Humorous recitations will be given by Mrs M. Williams. The evening’s concert will include a specially fine programme by the Studio Instrumental Octet under Mr Harold Beck. Miss Irene Morris and Miss Thelma Cussack (violinists) aind the orchestra will play Back’s “Largo.” H | Silent day at 4YA.
