A motorist who, by driving through a puddle in Riccarton avenue recently, sent a shower of water over a traffic inspector, and drove on after, one of the occupants of the car had looked back with a grin at the aggrieved inspector, was dealt with in the Alagistrate’s Court, Christchurch, on Alonday. John Kenneth AlcAlpine, who did not appear, was charged with failing to exercise sufficient care and splashing pedestrians. Traffic Inspectors G. P. Kellar complained that he bad “got the lot,” while he was standing 20 feet from the puddle, checking the speed of passing cars. Defendant he said, had deliberately driven through" the puddle, which score of, other cars had missed. “It is a wonder to me that there have not been more prosecutions under this section; some people are very careless and inconsiderate,” commented the Afagistrate, Air E. D. Alosley, . in imposing a fine of 20s and costs. So far as the chief traffic inspector (Air H. Alacintosh) could remember, the case was the first in Christchurch for six years.
