THE NOMINATIONS

CHRISTCHURCH, November 4

Tlie nominations of Air F. L. Hutchison to represent the secondary industries on the Unemployment Board has been endorsed by the Canterbury Employers’ Association and the Master Builder’s Association.

The Timbers Workers’ Union tonight nominated Messrs G. T. Thurston (Christchurch), and T. Bloodworth (Auckland) for the Board. The Retail Shop Assistants have nominated Messrs G. T. Thurston and W. Bromley (Wellington). These two have also been nominated by the Canterbury General Labourers’ Union. Mr C. E. Baldwin, President of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, who had been nominated as t a workers’ representative, has withdrawn his nomination on the ground that be considers the Minister’s powers under the Act are too greaet. He contends that there should be an election of the workers’ representative.

A similar protest was made bv other workers’ organisations. WELLINGTON, November 4.

The Farmer’s Union has decided to support the nomination of Mr A. E. Fowler as representative of the Primary Producers on the Unemployment Board. The selection of Air Fowler by the Shipowners’ Federation was announced by telegraph 'from Christchurch, and later in the day it was announced from headquarters that the union would support the selection. Mr Fowler has had experience as a sheepfarmer, and was the farmers’ representative on the Commission which inquired into the special cases of hardship created by the imposition of the super land tax last year. The complete remissions of tax' amounted to £86,552 while reductions were made amounting to £32,734, a total saving to the farming community of £118,286.
