vßy Telegraph— Press Association).
DUNEDIN, Nov. 4
A tragic drowning accident occurred at tomahawk Beach late this afternoon’, when a young girl, named Rose Isobel Kydd, was swept into the breakers and lost her life.
Miss Kydd, who was 17 years of age, and resided with her parents at Lukes Road, Tomahawk, was employed as a domestic at Karitane Home. About’ 5 p.m. in company- with a .friend, named Peggy Braid, she went to Tomahawk Beach to bathe. Apparently, however the girls became separated, for at about 5.20 p.m., Miss Braid came to Miss Ivydd’s home, asking if she had come back, as she was not on the beach. A search was immediately made for the missing girl,' but without avail, and it could only be surmised that she had entered the water during the absence of "her friend, aind had been swept out by the undertow! The police were communicated with and Constable Meiklejohn patrolled the’ beach until nightfall, but no sight of the unfortunate girl’s body was seen, and further searching later in the evening was also without result.
