ARMISTICE DAY

TWO MINUTES 7 SILENCE. The arrangements for the solemn observation of two minutes’ silenee on Armistice Day (Tuesdary, November 11) will lie the same as those of last year. Mis Excellency the Governor-General has received the following cablegram from the Secretary of State lor Dominion Affairs:— “Mis Majesty has approved of arrangements for the observance in this country of Armistice Day, November 11, on the same lines as in previous years, namely: (1) Short service will be held at the Cenotaph on the lines adopted in previous years, including hymn ‘0 God Our Help in Ages Past’ ; (2) two minutes’ silence will lie observed at 11 a.m. Local authorities in this country will he asked to arrange for suspension of all vehicular traffic for two minutes from 11 a.m., but rail and water transport will not be suspended. All heads of Government Depart ments are being asked to arrange for two minutes’ silence and the cessation of all activities on the occasion of the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, and similar observance will he made generally at the same hour. It has been decided to half-mast flags on all Government buildings Throughout New Zealand during the two minutes at 11 o’clock when silence is to lie observed throughout the Empire..
