SUCCESSFUL CONCERT

OFFICIAL OPENING OF ALL

SAINTS’ PARISH HALL

There was a large attendance at the official opening of All Saints’ Parish Hall last evening, the function taking the form of a concert organised by Mi’s Arnold Perry, and the gathering proved a success in every way. The hall is a very commodious one, comfortable and well appointed to a degree. The “finishing touches” have been well attended to, and nothing seems to have been left undone. There is a useful sized stage, with a Jirosenimn and footlights complete, a necessary drop curtain, and an effective back scene, and side wings are in course of preparation. The hall is well seated, and well lined, and brilliantly lit. There is a good entrance and ample exits. The dressing rooms etc are very convenient and well appointed, and altogether the hall is an acquisition to the town, and should prove a popular rendezvous for all sorts of. gatherings, its situation in the town being so central.

His Worship' the Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) introduced by the Vicar (Revd. Knights) performed the openceremony. Mr Perry congratulated all connected with tfye completion of the building on their good work, and trusted the hall would prove useful for the moral and social advancement of the community. It was a worthy enterprise and reflected credit on all concerned, and he had much pleasure on formally declaring it opened. The Vicar on behalf of the Church Wardens, spoke also in appreciation of all who had assisted to complete and equip the building so satisfactorily. Primarily it was intended for Sunday School work to replace the building destroyed by fire some time ago, hut the building would he available for social services and evenings, and it was hoped it would be used frequently. As Church folk; they felt grateful to all who had assisted j and he thanked the large audience for the liberal patronage that evening. Mrs Perry, who organised so fine a concert, and the several ladies and gentlemen who assisted so creditably.

The concert programme was one of very considerable merit. There was a variety and all round excellence, and every item was encored. Instrumental music was proved by Miss Gwen Jacobs (piano), Mr J. Ackers (violin), Air Robilliard (cello). Recitals were given by Miss James and Mr J. Stopforth, with a musical monologue by Mr Jas. Alenzies. The vocalists were Misses A. Lynn, Sweeney, C. Wylie, A. Duff, R. Morgan, Mesdames E. Stoop, Robilliard, Perry, Messrs T. Hatch, C. Wright, and A. Perry, and a toe dance was given by Miss Nan Darhv. The official accompanist© was Miss M. Giese, while assistance was given also by Miss Robinson and Mesdames Carver and Robilliard. > The singing of the National Anthem by the assemblage closed a very enjoyable concert and successful opening ceremony.
