RESIGNATION OF MAYOR.

BOROUGH OF DEVONPORT.,

AUCKLAND, October 30,

Advice was received from Mr Ernest Aldridge at a meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last, evening that he was remaining in Christchurch and intended to resign the Mayoralty of the borough. Mr Aldridge has been in Christchurch some months, having been granted leave of absence by the council.'

The Deputy-Mayor, Mr J. Hislop, said it was a matter of regret that the borough had to lose the valuable services of Mr Aldridge and the opportunity would be taken when Mr Aldridge visited Auckland shortly to express the council’s appreciation of his work.

MOTUROA BORE-

OIL STILL FLOWING

NEW PLYMOUTH, October 30. The best flow of oil from No. 1 ibore at the Moturoa Oilfields to date was obtained this morning, when 200 gallons were secured after the well had been left standing overnight. The well will now be left standing for twenty-four hours to gua-ge the natural flow of the oil. The erection of a- steel derrick for the New Plymouth Oilwells, Limited, will be completed to-morrow, after occupying only four and a half dajs, which is a record.
