BRISBANE Oct. 31. The first Sheffield Shield match began to-day, Queensland against South Australia. Both sides are playing a number of new men. Queensland is captained by Gough. In the first innings, Queensland lost 7 for 271. Briggs made 108, and Thompson 78. Stumps were then drawn.
