RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) FRIDAY, OCTOBER ,31st. lYA’s programme this evening will eionsist of haill-hour net it a Is. The evening will commence with a special recording of Kurt Atterberg’s “Symphony No. 6 in 0 Major—Op.3l” by. the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Sir Thomas Beycham. Tins Symphony was selected from over live hundred works by a jury of eleven international musicians to receive a grand prize award of '£2,GOO. The fiist vocal recital of the evening will be given by .\!r Frederick AY. Simpson, who will 'be new to IYA listeners. This contribution to the programme will be followed by a half-hour’s pianoforte recital by Mr Simpson’s wife, formerly known as Miss Thelma Unllagher, an outstanding pianiste in Auckland. The programme will conclude with Mr J. M. Clark and his Company giving a scene from Shakespeare’s “Henry VIII.” The evening’s programme is of a type that will appeal to listeners and they' will have an opportunity of hearing some very fine artists. The recording of the Symphony will in itself be an entertainment that is seldom hejU'd. All operatic—mainly light operatic—and miscellaneous programme of a high order will be given during the concert session from 2YA. The vocal portion of the programme will feature Miss Beryl Hope, a young operatic soprano of promise, Mr R. J. G. Madigen the winner of the men’s vocal championship at the recent Wellington Competition Society’s Festival, Mr Chas. P. Edwards, a tenor of outstanding ability, and Miss Dorothy Bpiller, a young (Jhristclnirch contralto whose work at 3YA is well known to listeners. The elocutionary portion of the programme will lie provided by Miss Vivienne Tait, and an instrumental programme will be given by the Orchestrina. Dance music, played by the popular Bailey-Marscon Dance Orchestra, will be broadcast from 3YA following on a session of popular concert items. The contributing artists. will be the Dulcet Duo (Miss Nellie Lowe and Mr A. G.. Thompson) tn solos and duets, Mr G, Titchener (humorist), Miss Irene Morris (violinist©) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio.
Two half hour plays will be the principal attractions at 4YA. These will be presented by “The Sketellers” under the direction of Miss Slieila Neilson, the well known elpciitioniste. Tlje plays are entitled “The Simtham Amateurs Present” and “Eldorado.” Excellent casts of characters have been arranged. Solos will be sung by Miss MilHe Vickers, the possessor of one of the finest ,<idio soprano voices in Dunedin. The Studio Trio will supply the instrumental portion of the programme, the items including several light numbers.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER, Ist. During the evening’s programme from IYA,' the String Octet will play several numbers, Miss Adele Taylor (soprano) will be hoard in ballads, the Snappy Three, and Mr J. W. Bailey' (humor) will give items. The 2YA programme will be devoted to, a relay of tire final concert of the Wellington Symphony Orchestra’s 1930 Season. Contributing to the variety programme at 3A’A will be Mr Eddie Hogan (songs with ukulele), the Joyous pair (songs at the piano), the Christchurch Trio, Mr John Lockhart (Scottish humorist), Mr E. G. AA'illiams (trombonist) and Mr Jack Blair (songs at the piano). This evening, 4YA will be relaying from His Majesty’s Theatre, Dunedin, the concert to be given by the Dunedin Burns Club.
