CAUCUS CONCLUDES,
SOME OF THE DECISIONS. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 10 a.m.) CANBERRA, October 31. The Federal Labour Caucus has concluded its sitting. It agreed that persons in receipt of a regular salary from the Commonwealth Government be subject to a special Supertax. This amount to be ten per cent in the case of those whose salaries are between £'7.50 and £IOOO sterling a year, and fifteen per cent, in the case of those in receipt of more than £IOOO. Another means of assisting to balance the budget will be the adjustment of certain Federal accounts, in order to effect [substantial savings. The Caucus decisions represent a compromise between the original proposals submitted by Mr Lyons, and the demands of the militant sections of the Labour party. OBITUARY. A claim for ten thousand sterling dahiages for allegel libel is made in a writ against the proprietors of the “Argus.’’ ■: The 'Writ is on behalf of Cyril Thornton, who states the defendant published an article on 22nd April falsely representing that he went to India to assist rebellious Indians to creat civil, turmoil, and arranged to challenge the Government of India by publicly breaking the salt laws.
